DIRECTIONS

From the Lower Mainland, the property may be accessed by heading north on Highway 1 through the town of Hope until the town of Lytton. From Lytton, head northwest along the Lillooet-Lytton (Highway 12) roadway until you reach Lillooet. From Lillooet you may launch your boat on Seton Lake, board the Kaoham Shuttle or drive through Shalath to reach the western fringe of the property.

As an alternative route, originating from the Lower Mainland you may travel north on Highway 99, through Whistler and Pemberton, until you reach Lillooet. From Lillooet you can then access the boat launch on Seton Lake, the Kaoham Shuttle or the western edge of the property through Shalath.

Lillooet, formerly Cayoosh Flat, is a community on the Fraser River in British Columbia, about 240 kilometres (150 mi) up the British Columbia Railway line from Vancouver. Situated at an intersection of deep gorges in the lee of the Coast Mountains, it has a dry climate—329.5 millimetres (13 in) of precipitation is recorded annually. Lillooet has a long growing season and once had prolific market gardens and orchard produce. It often experiences extremely hot summers with shade temperatures more than occasionally topping 40°C (104°F) and it often vies with Lytton and Osoyoos for the title of “Canada’s Hot Spot” on a daily basis in summer.

It is set against a backdrop of the Coast Mountains—a varied terrain ideal for fishing, canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, snowmobiling and ice climbing. The abundant surrounding wilderness also provides incredible wildlife viewing and bird watching. HISTORY

The region’s history is entrenched around the gold rush of the 19th century. In 1860 the town of Lillooet was one of the largest cities west of Chicago. Often, gold flakes can still be seen suspended in the water of Seton Lake if you look closely.

Camels are a unique symbol of the region’s history and you may notice numerous buildings and signs that bare their name or image. In 1858 a local entrepreneur imported 23 Bactrian camels to serve as pack animals for the region’s gold rush. The animals proved to be a nightmare, as they ate the clothing of miners, kicked and spat at anyone who came near and spooked the other pack animals. They would eventually be released into the wild where they would die off. The primary bridge connecting the town of Lillooet to Highway 12 is now called “The Bridge of 23 Camels” in their honor.
